Surfing Coach level 1 – EU certification

Duration: 78 horas

Recognized official EU training, sports coach level 1. After receiving the official coach licence you can request the equivalent at your country of origin (EU countries). This course is mandatory to teach surfing in Portugal.
The course allows you to conduct training sessions in Surf, Stand Up Paddleboard, Skimming, Bodyboard and Longboard.
The majority of the course will be online, with a long weekend presence at Sharks Lodge (4 days).
The online training will be asynchronous (you study when you want), with tutor monitoring and face-to-face sessions to be arranged. The course will be held in three phases, a general component followed by a specific component and an internship.

Internships last 80h of practical lessons and planning, reflexion work around them, for a total of 500h, minimum of 6 months.

CONDITIONS OF ACCESS FOR CANDIDATES TO ENROL IN SPORTS COACH COURSES
Grade I Surfing Coach Courses
– Minimum age 18 years (at the date of issue of the Qualifications Diploma).
– Mandatory minimum education (at the date of issue of the Qualifications Diploma of the course).
4 years of schooling
For candidates born on or before 12/31/1966.
6 years of schooling
For candidates born between 1/1/1967 and 12/31/1980
9 years of schooling
For candidates born between 01/01/1981 and 31/12/2002

List of specific prerequisites:

Fulfilment of the defined technical prerequisites (approval in the practical test):
Starting point on the beach;
Without board and with fins or with a board of your choice;
Controlled movement in the water, respecting the currents, passing the surf until reaching the line-up;
Controlled entry into the wave (0.5 to 1m),
SURF to the right or to the left, descending and ascending the wave and performing at least two intermediate level maneuvers;
End the trip on the wave, voluntarily and in control;
Return to the beach.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS FOR CARRYING OUT THE TEST:

Equipment to be used is the responsibility of the candidate.

ASSESSMENT (PROCESS AND CRITERIA)

The performance must not show serious technical errors.

Trainer with TPTD Surf/Bodyboard Grade II, or higher.
